Rules for awarding the Innofinland Prizes of the President of the Republic

The President of the Republic may award an Innofinland Prize as an acknowledgement of and encouragement for innovative entrepreneurship. The Innofinland Jury nominates the candidates for Innofinland Prizewinners.

The prize is awarded to an innovative business, organisation or private person whose ideas, inventions or innovations have significantly promoted business activities, entrepreneuship in general, the placing of inventions on the market, and thereby also creativity, know-how, entrepreneurial spirit and co-operation in Finland. Other grounds for awarding are such factors as continuity of activities, the competitive situation in the field, level of technology, R&D and promotion of employment.

Sufficient attention must be paid to industry structures, various lines of businesses and the size of businesses.

A maximum of five Innofinland Prizes may be presented each year. The prize is not announced but the Innofinland Jury is allowed to accept proposals for prizewinners.

The Innofinland Jury nominates the candidates for prizewinners. The Jury is made up of representatives from the Ministry of Employment and the Economy , the Foundation for Finnish Inventions, the Central Chamber of Commerce of Finland, the National Board of Patents and Registration of Finland (NBPR), the Finnish Innovation Fund (Sitra), Jobs & Society in Finland, the Federation of Finnish Enterprises, the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation (Tekes), the Confederation of Finnish Industries, WWF and the Ministry of the Environment. The President of the NBPR convenes the Jury.
