WIPEX Service platform for mobile entertainment applications
WIPEX is a service platform which is independent of networks and terminals and is intended to perform and distribute interactive mobile services. It enables world-wide delivery of mobile games and easy matching and maintenance of games considering local technical, linguistic, and contentual requirements. The mobile application can also be combined with a television set, which allows customers to participate in interactive programmes by using their mobile phones.
The company has more than 50 telephone operators as customers connected to Codetoys? distribution system. Over 250 million mobile users can be reached via the telephone operators. Games are carried out and delivered through the service platform, for instance, to Europe, the Middle East, Africa, North and South America, and Japan. Codetoys co-operates with component manufacturers, mobile technology and content companies and has created games for the operating system environment Symbian used by, for example, Nokia. Content companies such as Hasbro, Celador and Fremantlemedia are Codetoys? partners.
Technology director Matti Hämäläinen?s research on structured documents, whose first applications concerned learning, is the background to WIPEX. The development work was carried out by the whole technical staff, whose many years? experience represents a unique concentration of know-how in the field of mobile games. Codetoys has right from the beginning participated in the Mobile Games Interoperability Forum (MGIF) which sets standards in the field.
Codetoys Ltd was established in 2002 when Codeonline Ltd (1998) and Springtoys Ltd (2000) merged. In 2001, the company?s turnover was little less than 5 million euros. At the moment, the company employs 60 persons. Strategic partners who have invested in the company include AOL Time Warner, Bertelsmann, and Motorola. The use of the service platform will continue to expand along with cross-media applications and telephones supporting new content types.
