Fish farming in a recirculating water system
The awarded innovation ?Fish farming in a recirculating water system? concerns fish farming, regardless of fish species, in a closed water circulation system (water oxidation, aeration, nitrification, in other words, biological filtration, mechanical purification, change of farming water to avoid too heavy a nutrient load, water disinfection with ozone and UV). In-depth knowledge of fish feeding technology, new solutions for tank technology, and new expertise in biological filtration are the core know-how of Arvo-Tec Oy. Pilot plants with the recirculating water system operate in Imatra and Myrskylä in Finland and the construction of Arvo-Kala Oy?s plant for arctic char farming has just begun. Arvo-Tec strongly concentrates on research and development. The innovation is protected by patent and its patent portfolio comprises two Finnish patent applications: biological filter and fish farming tank.
The innovation makes environmentally friendly fish farming possible, regardless of place. In addition, it enables an increase in fish production in Finland.
Arvo-Tec Oy was established in 1994. In 2002, the company?s turnover is ?750,000. The commercialisation of the innovation is expected to quintuple the company?s business in 5-7 years.
Arvo-Tec Oy?s operations concentrate on fish farming and technology know-how introduced by the company Arvo-Kala Oy in 1969. Arvo-Tec delivers feeding technology in Finland and abroad. Deliveries of recirculating water technology abroad will start in 2004 after the pilot projects in Finland.
